Robert Polidori, a Canadian artist interested in cultural evidence through habitat has been interested in the palace of Versailles for most of his career. There is an interest in how different generations preserve historical spaces, layers upon layers. Some of the images use the claustrophobic decoration and carefully chosen viewpoints to reduce the spaces to 2D patterns, like a Bonnard painting. There seems also to be a counterpoint between the spaces and materials depicted in the paintings and the architecture itself. A good article
here.
