Visualising interior space

Vilnis Vitolins

Vilnis Vitolins is another photographer who uses a cabinet of curiosities approach to portraiture. These high resolution images (Hasselblad digital) appear as feasts for the eyes, there is no rummaging in the cupboards as everything is on display in a claustrophobic life-story-in-a-room sort of way. The people themselves blend in with their environment as if almost camouflaged, small fragments of the constructed whole. Again the spaces are compressed to patterns by the lighting and depth of field, the photographic space seems treated like a painted canvas with every available area carefully filled in.
